This Biodiesel Quality Report for the year 2023 reflects the outstanding quality of the biodiesel produced by AGQM members from Germany and Austria. AGQM biodiesel can be used as a pure fuel or in blends, so that direct greenhouse gas savings are possible and the existing vehicle fleet can also be addressed.

This Biodiesel Quality Report 2022 shows that biodiesel from Germany and Austria is available in excellent quality to be used as pure fuel or for higher blends. This means that significant savings in greenhouse gas emissions are already possible today and in existing fleets to achieve the EU climate protection targets.

The use of biofuels saves up to 83% of greenhouse gas emissions annually. The most important biofuel is biodiesel. With its unannounced sampling campaigns, which take place at least three times a year, the AGQM shows its members that the use of biodiesel in higher blends (B10 and B20) is possible thanks to its excellent quality and should therefore be used more intensively to reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector.

Among other things, AGQM carries out annual unannounced sampling of its members as a quality assurance measure. Sampling without prior notice will ensure that the results are consistent with the actual operations of the producers and warehouse operators. In all EU member states, biodiesel – also known as FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) – contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions and the use of fossil fuels by its use as admixture to Diesel fuel at a rate of 7 % (B7). To guarantee a marketable and suitable product it is essential to reliably meet the high-quality requirements resulting from EU standard EN 14214 and thus to only market products of high quality. To comply with this claim Association Quality Management biodiesel (AGQM) which is the alliance of most German biodiesel producers and traders, was founded in Germany in 1999.

Biodiesel remains the key fuel based on renewable raw materials in Germany and will play an important role in the future for maintenance of mobility and in the fight against climate change. The aim of AGQM (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Qualitätsmanagement Biodiesel e.V.) and associated biodiesel manufacturer and supplier is to merchandise a product that not only fulfills the minimum requirement standards of the norm but also complies with the demanding quality criteria that AGQM sets to provide fuel at its best for the customer.

Since its foundation in 1999, Arbeitsgemeinschaft Qualitaetsmanagement Biodiesel e.V. (AGQM) has taken a large number of measures to assure the continuous improvement of the quality of ‘Biodiesel’. Apart from implementing a quality assurance system – which the association makes available to its members and the observance of which it monitors – the most important measure were regular checks of the Biodiesel quality at filling stations and member companies, both trading companies and production plants.

Being the most important fuel based on renewable resources, Biodiesel is a supporting pillar when it comes to achieving the climate protection targets defined by the EU Commission for the traffic sector.

The Association Quality Management Biodiesel (AGQM) is publishing a study on the quality of biodiesel for the first time. The samples were taken and analysed during the course of 2010 from the member companies of AGQM as part of an unannounced sampling process by an independent test institute. The quality of the analysed biodiesel samples fully meets the requirements of DIN EN 14214 as well as the stricter requirements of the AGQM quality assurance system.
